When to Ask for Help: What Print Lord Checks That You Might Miss
You have spent April learning how to plan with ChatGPT, write better prompts, understand print fundamentals, and export files correctly. That is brilliant. That knowledge will save you time, money, and a fair few headaches.
But here is the truth Print Lord learned over twenty years in this trade: knowing what to check and actually catching everything are two different things. You can understand bleed perfectly and still miss that one edge where the background does not quite extend far enough. You can know about safe areas and still place critical text 4mm from the trim without noticing.
This is not about competence. It is about experience, and about having seen every possible way a print job can go wrong. Print Lord has. Thousands of times. And that is exactly why we exist.
This is not about making you feel inadequate. It is about partnership. You can do a huge amount yourself with the knowledge you have gained this month, but Print Lord is here to catch what you might miss and save you from disasters before they cost you.
What Print Lord Checks That Most People Miss
When a file arrives at Print Lord, it goes through a thorough review before it goes anywhere near a press. This is not a quick glance. This is a systematic check of everything that matters for print quality, and everything we have learned can go wrong.
Here is what we look for.
Colour Accuracy
Your design might look perfect on your screen. Vibrant blues, rich blacks, accurate skin tones. Then it prints, and the colours are off.
This happens for several reasons. Your screen is backlit and displays in RGB. Print uses CMYK inks on paper. The colour gamut is different, and some colours simply cannot be reproduced exactly in print.
Print Lord checks colour values in your file and flags anything that will shift dramatically. We know which blues go muddy, which reds go flat, which blacks need boosting. We can advise on adjustments before the job prints, not after.
Most clients do not have calibrated monitors. Most clients do not know how to check CMYK values. Most clients approve designs on screen and hope for the best. Print Lord removes the hope and replaces it with certainty.
Image Quality at Print Size
Your image might look sharp on screen. But images that look acceptable at 50% zoom on a laptop often fall apart at 100% print size.
Print Lord checks every image in your file at the actual size it will print. We zoom in. We inspect edges, gradients, fine details. We look for compression artifacts, pixelation, upscaling problems.
If an image is going to print poorly, we catch it before the job runs. We tell you which images need replacing, and what resolution they need to be. This saves you from receiving printed materials with blurry photos that make your brand look cheap.
You might know the 300dpi rule. Print Lord knows what 300dpi actually looks like in practice, and we know when a 250dpi image will be fine and when it will not. That comes from experience, not theory.
Font Embedding
This is a technical issue most people never think about until it ruins their job.
When you create a design in Canva and export a PDF, the fonts need to be embedded in that file. If they are not embedded properly, the printer cannot reproduce the text accurately. You might get font substitution, where your carefully chosen typeface is replaced with something generic. Or worse, you get missing text.
Print Lord checks font embedding in every file. If there is an issue, we catch it and fix it before the job prints. You never need to know it was a problem, because we handle it.
Most clients have no idea how to check font embedding. They should not need to. That is Print Lord’s job.
Bleed Consistency
You might have set up bleed correctly. 3mm all round, just like you learned. But Print Lord has seen files where bleed is set up on three sides and missing on the fourth. Where bleed is there but the background does not actually extend into it. Where bleed is inconsistent across different pages of a multi-page document.
We check every edge, every page, every element that touches the trim line. If your background needs to bleed, we make sure it actually does. If it does not, we tell you before the job prints and you end up with white edges.
This is the kind of detail that is easy to miss when you are designing. You are focused on layout, on content, on making it look good. Print Lord is focused on making it print right.
Safe Area Compliance
You know about safe areas now. Keep important content 5mm inside the trim edge. Simple enough.
But Print Lord still sees files where text sits 3mm from the edge, or logos are 2mm from the trim, or critical information is right on the borderline. Sometimes this happens because the designer did not check. Sometimes it happens because they adjusted the layout after setting up safe areas and did not recheck.
We measure. We check every element that matters. If something is too close to the edge, we flag it and advise. Better to move it now than to see it cut off in print.
Trim Marks and Crop Marks
Your file might have crop marks. But are they correct? Are they actually marking the right trim size? Are they positioned properly? Are they going to cause confusion or problems at the print stage?
Print Lord checks this. We make sure your marks are accurate, that they match the intended finished size, and that they will not cause issues in production. This is specialist knowledge that comes from working with print equipment and understanding what printers need to see.
File Integrity and Technical Specifications
Beyond the obvious checks, Print Lord looks at file integrity. Is the PDF actually print-ready, or is it a web PDF that will cause problems? Are layers flattened correctly? Are transparencies handled properly? Is the file size appropriate for the job?
These are technical specifications that most clients never encounter. They should not need to. Print Lord handles this so you do not have to become a print technician just to get a flyer printed.
Why Expert Review Matters
You can learn the rules, understand the principles, and apply best practices. That gets you most of the way there. But Print Lord catches the edge cases, the subtle problems, the things you would only know to look for if you had seen them go wrong before.
This is not about Print Lord being clever. It is about Print Lord having spent two decades looking at files, printing them, and learning exactly where things go wrong. That accumulated knowledge is what saves you from disasters.
Every reprint Print Lord has ever done has taught us something. Every job that had to be redone because of a missed detail has made us better at catching that detail next time. You benefit from all of that experience when we review your file.
This Is Partnership, Not Just Order-Taking
Some printers take your file, run it, and send you whatever comes out. If it is wrong, that is your problem. You sent the file, you approved it, you pay for the reprint.
That is not how Print Lord works. We review your file because we care about the result. We catch problems because we do not want you to be disappointed, frustrated, or out of pocket. We advise because we want you to be proud of what you receive.
This is partnership. You bring the vision, the content, the brand. Print Lord brings the expertise, the quality control, and the commitment to getting it right. Together, we produce print that works.
You are not expected to be a print expert. You are expected to run your business, serve your customers, and build your brand. Print Lord handles the print expertise so you can focus on what you do best.
When to Ask for Help
Ask for help before you commit to a large print run. Ask for help when the job is critical and there is no room for error. Ask for help when you are not completely confident in your file. Ask for help when you want a second pair of expert eyes on your work.
Print Lord is here for all of that. Send us your file. We will review it, flag any issues, and advise on fixes. If it is perfect, we will tell you that too. If it needs adjustment, we will explain what and why, and help you get it right.
This is not an upsell or a premium service. This is how Print Lord works. Every file gets reviewed. Every client gets expert guidance. Every job gets treated as if the Print Lord name is on it, because in a way, it is.
Your brand reputation is on the line when you hand out print. Print Lord guards that reputation as if it were our own.
What You Have Learned This Month
April has given you a solid foundation. You know how to plan with ChatGPT before you design. You know how to write better prompts. You understand bleed, safe areas, white space, and image quality. You know how to export correctly.
That knowledge is valuable, and it will make your print projects better from the start. Files that arrive at Print Lord well-prepared are faster to process, less likely to need corrections, and more likely to print perfectly first time.
But even with all that knowledge, Print Lord still adds value. We still catch things. We still advise. We still make sure the final result is something you are proud of.
Print Lord Is Your Safety Net
You can do a lot yourself. You should do a lot yourself. The more you understand about print, the better your projects will be.
But Print Lord is here as your safety net. The expert review that catches what you missed. The experienced eye that spots problems before they become disasters. The partner who wants you to succeed as much as you do.
This is not about dependency. It is about collaboration. You bring your knowledge and your effort. Print Lord brings expertise and experience. Together, we create print that is on brand and on time.
When you are ready to print, Print Lord is ready to help. Send us your file. We will make sure it is right. And if it is not quite there yet, we will help you get it there.
At your service. On brand. On time.
